The Capela de São João Baptista Chapel is the oldest monument in the area. It is a small hermit dating back to the 14th century and buried by the building of the São João bastion, belonging to a 14th century fortress.
Despite the first mentions to this building dating back to the 14th century, some historians consider it as a Moorish “cuba” from the 11th or 12th century due to its aesthetic.
In the interior is worth noting the murals from 1622 showing twenty representations of late-Manueline style.
