Monsaraz Castle is located in the southeastern extreme of this charming town in the region of Alentejo, Portugal.
The castle, listed as National Monument, was built towards the late 13th century by King D. Dinis and was part of the chain of fortifications that bordered with Spain. Currently, you still can distinguish the keep and four smaller square towers.
