The Casa da Música House is a spectacular and modern concert venue which construction began in 1999, in the neighborhood of Boavista, in Porto, for the project “Porto 2001: European Culture Capital”. Despite this the building was not finished until 2005.
Currently it is considered a true symbol of Porto and its exterior structure is iconic. There you will have chance to listen to the three orchestras from the city: Orquestra Nacional do Porto, Orquestra Barroca and Remix Ensemble.
Next to it lies the Plaça de Albuquerque Square, a great square full of gardens and spots where you can get relaxed and disconnect, and in which centre is the Monument to the Peninsular War, a great sculpture of 45 meters composed of a lion over an eagle surrounded by horses and soldiers. Such a monument commemorates the victory of the British and Portuguese alliance over the Napoleonic troops.
