Located very close to the Torre dos Clérigos Tower, Praça da Liberdade Square is the main square of Porto and connects the old and modern areas of the city.
The heart of this square features a historic monument from 1862 consisting of an equestrian statue of king Pedro IV almost 10 metres tall and made of bronze. This sculpture also features the Portuguese Magna Carta.
In this square gets born the famous Avenida dos Aliados Avenue, full of Modernist buildings and restaurants.
