The Fundação Serralves is a cultural entity with the goal of promoting contemporary art. This foundation is located in the opulent neighbourhood of Boavista, in Porto.
This is one of the great examples of contemporary architecture in the city. Designed by Álvaro Siza Vieira, it endows it with a minimalist style, ample whitewashed spaces, and lots of natural light.
The interior is occupied by the Contemporary Art Museum, where exhibitions mainly focus in Vanguardist art. Despite this, some permanent exhibitions also feature works from 1960 to the contemporary.
Admission to the museum includes a visit to Casa Serralves, an art-decó home located within the entity, where temporary exhibitions are organized, next to the Serralves Park. There, you will find beautiful ponds with water lilies, formal fountains, and lots of fanciful details.
