t counts with a rich interior decoration, where stands out the main chapel’s reredos, made by gilded carving by the master João Fonseca, dating back to 1696; the polychromed retables of the side chapels and the altar painting of Saint Joseph, work of André Reinoso. It is worth visiting the chapel dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Conceição and having a look at the combination of the blue and white tiles from the 18th century.
The Igreja de Santiago Church was declared cathedral in the 1930s after the request of the bishop of Beja. In that time, two restoration works were made. In these, the Mannerist and Baroque elements were improved and the treasure of the cathedral was enriched with sacred art work coming from extinguished convents of Lisbon and the heritage of the Casa de Braganza lineage.
