The Igreja da Misericórdia Church of the city of Beja was built in the middle of 16th century and it is listed as a National Monument.
It is an important example of Renaissance/Mannerist architecture with strong Italian influences, inspired by the famous loggia of the city of Florence.
This building was initially designed to host town butcheries. However, due to its important aesthetic impact, it was considered too noble for that function, and was adapted as church.
