The São Francisco Convent is found outside the Medieval walls of the city of Beja, besides the old road connecting Beja with Mértola, in Alentejo, Portugal.
This convent was founded in the 13th century, but it suffered numerous modifications along the centuries. Therefore, it shows elements of different architectural styles. From the Gothic period it still has a funerary chapel (15th century) known as Sala dos Túmulos, which is considered by many as one of the most fascinating Gothic monuments in the country.
Nowadays, this convent is part of the network of Pousadas (Inns) of Portugal.
