The name of Praia da Ponta Ruiva Beach comes from a gigantic ochre-coloured rock on its south side, next to where beloved great waves appear. The reddish hues of the rock contrast with the dark black of the cliffs and the deep blue of the sea.
The beach can be accessed by walking along a trail of medium-difficulty that descends to the slight-slope cliffs.
It is a very quiet beach with unspoilt nature where the scent of rockroses is intense. In this trail is it possible to see African Stonchats and birds of prey, especially falcons.
There are several unsignaled accessed from Sagres and Vila do Bispo. All are dirt roads with rocks. Accessing the beach is a little bit complicated, so it is only recommended for off-road vehicles.
