This Centre, opened on May 3rd, 2009, occupies a part of the old city market, built in the early 20th century.
The centre is composed of a reception area, technical installations, temporal exhibition room, and a room with historical-archeological contents related to the past of Vila do Bispo. This room also contains an auditorium, as well as information panels that allow the visitor to travel to the maritime areas of northern Africa and Japan, where Portuguese sailors first arrived in the 15th and 16th centuries.
In this space, the visitor will find a great amount of information about the history, local heritage, and tourist attractions of the area.
Interesting Facts:
Besides being the city market, this building was used a place to sell barnacles (renowned local seafood) and slaughterhouse.
