Finished in the 1530s, the Aqueduct of Água de Prata reaches Évora from the Northeast. It was designed by Francisco de Arruda (well-known for his design of the Tower of Belém, in Lisbon) to carry water to the city.
At the end of the aqueduct, in Rua do Cano Street, there is a neighbourhood full of houses, shops and cafes located between its nice arches.
It is possible to have a walk along the 8,5 kilometres of the aqueduct, starting from Estrada de Arraiolos Road, located on the outskirt of the city. There are three main access points on it, but it is important to remember it is not a circular circuit.
