This Clock Museum (Museu do Relógio) has two branches, one of them located in the Palace of Barrocal of Évora, nearby the well-known Praça do Giraldo square; but the other one it is so in the Convent of Mosteirinho, next to Praça da República square, in Serpa.
This museum has more than 2,300 mechanical parts dating back from 1630 until nowadays. It has pocket watches, wristwatches, clocks and many others. Moreover, one of the museum’s rooms is dedicated to national clocks and it houses several temporary exhibitions.
This museum’s history dates back to 1972, when its main supporter, António Tavares d’Almeida, inherited three out-of-order pocket watches from his grandparents. Since that moment, he compiled watches all over the world. In 1955 he did his first exhibition and donated around 400 watches to the museum. Nowadays, his as well passionate son Eugénio is the one in charge of the museum, compiling all kinds of watches from all over the world.
