Camacha is a beautiful village located in a wooded area, over a high plateau, at the Northeast of Funchal, in Madeira. This village is famous for its excellent basketing and its folkloric group.
To enjoy the panoramic views offered because of its height position, you have to visit the Torre do Relógio Tower, settled in the main square, known as Largo da Achada.
This tower hosts a bell and a clock which were brought in 1896 from Liverpool by the philanthropist Dr. Michael Grabham. The tower, besides counting with a café and a respected restaurant, is the most important selling point of the basketing industry of Madeira. Here wicker baskets and all kinds of furniture are sold. In the basement, it is possible to attend a basket exhibition, while in the upper roof there is an exhibition of animals from Noah’s Ark and a galeon made in wicker by handcrafters from the town, in order to show their abilities.
