Santana is one of the nicest and most colourful villages in Madeira. Here, its inhabitants used to live in beautiful wooden cottages with roofs ending in a narrow head (Palheiros). Some of them still survive among the modern constructions, especially those close to Las Queimadas area.
This beautiful village is surrounded by perfect places to have endless walks, such as the Parque das Queimadas Park and Achada do Teixeira, from where you can climb to Pico Ruivo Pike, the highest summit in the island.
Another beautiful path is the one that reaches the impressive Caldeirão Verde in a little more than an hour walk. Here you will find a 300-metre-high waterfall falling into a fern and moss puddle.
In Santana you can also visit the Madeira Thematic Park, a little park permanently opened.
