The name of this borough comes from the arabian al-hamma which means baths. and this is how we might describe this borough. From here you might take the best views over the Tagus river, specially from the Santa Luzia viewpoint.

Some of the most ancient and symbolic monuments are located in Alfama, as the Cathedral and the São Jorge Castle.

It’s also on this district that the fado was born and so, you might find many good fado houses and great restaurants.
