The Marine Museum (Museu da Marinha), constituted by the King D. Luis in 1863 has the main goal of promoting the naval military issues and, above all, disclose the portuguese maritime past from the Great Discoveries till the XIX century.
This museum is spread along an area of 50 thousand square meters, from which 16.050 are dedicated to the permanent exhibition that includes models of galleys, riverboats as well as arms and uniforms, navigation tools and maritime letters.
You might even take a look at several documents, plans, historic images and a marine library which might help you understand the impact of such naval expeditions.
