The Cinema Museum (Cinemateca), inaugurated in 1948, has the main goal of exhibiting and conserving the portuguese cinematographic heritage.
Cinemateca has three permanent exhibition, Oak Tree Roam, dedicated to the pre-cinema apparel exhibition; the cupids room, dedicated to the collection of magic lamps, where some occasional shows are held; the Foz Palace, an interactive exhibition on the pre-cinema period that contemplates shadow shows, magical lamps and many processes that throughout the centuries allowed the phenomenon of animating pictures. Numerous elements are exhibited on the different collections from different periods (Sound collections, lightning, video, decoration objects and others.)
Cinemateca has a collection of more than 33.000 analogic and digital elements conserved in sealed safes, a library with important documents related to the themes explored by this museum, from several periods and typologies being the third most representative cinematographic library in Europe.
Several temporary exhibitions are also presented on this magnificent museum.
The cinema museum has several other services for every audience, from visits to its collections, to access to the archive and library, projection rooms rental. This museum also has a restaurant and a book shop.
