The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation was created through the collection of goods left by Calouste Gulbenkian, an art lover and collector.
The Foundation supports several cultural activities and finances its own orchestra, choir and has several libraries, show rooms and even two museums totalizing 6.000 pieces exposed.
The Calouste Gulbenkian building is located near Avenida de Berna. The inspiration for its architecture was based on Calouste Gulbenkian’s principles: “spirituality, criativity, simplicity”.
The gardens cover an area of 9 hectares. On this space many microlandscapes might be found representing different regions of Portugal where you might find several types of animals, diversified flora, lake, streams, garden terraces, trails and even an outdoor amphitheatre where many shows are held during summer.
Both the building and this garden have been considered in 2010, National Monument.
