The São Roque Museum is located in the buildings of the former Professed House of the Company of Jesus, in Lisbon, adjacent to São Roque Church.
It originally opened to the public in 1905 under the name of Museum of the Treasure of the Chapel of Saint John the Baptist, in tribute to an important collection of 18th-century Italian art that served as the inspiration for foundation of the museum. Various interventions took place over the course of the 20th century.
The exhibition itinerary has been renovated and is now organised across five nuclei that exhibit collections of great significance within the field of Portuguese, European and Portuguese-Oriental art, spanning over 500 years of art and history.
