This train station was built in 1887 by the portuguese architect José Luís Monteiro.
Throughout the years this has always been a very busy station which connect the important village of Sintra to Lisbon. The exterior building is Manueline style inspired and it has been, since 1971, considered Public Interest Property.
The main nave of the station, with its great dimensions, is covered by a porch of iron and glass with 130 meters wide and 21 meters tall.
